Is there a Kerala link to the Paris attack that was carried out by the Islamic State? The National Investigation Agency which is probing an ISIS related Kerala had found that an operative had links with the two of the terrorists who carried out the horrific attack in Paris.
The Kerala operative in question is Subahani Haja Moideen. This link has got the French police interested and they are likely to file a plea in the Kerala High Court seeking permission to question Moideen.
Moideen is a resident of Thodupuzha in Kerala. He was arrested by the NIA on October 5 2017. During his questioning he said that he was part of an ISIS training camp in Mosul, Iraq. He also confessed to have meeting Abdelhamid Abaaoud and Salah Abdelslam, the two terrorists who were part of the Paris attack. He said that the two were training in the same group as he was.
He also said that he never knew their real names. They would be called al-Francisi in the camps. It was only when the NIA showed Moideen the pictures of the two terrorists did he recognise them.
When the NIA questioned him about the Paris attack, he said he had no idea about it. By the time the attack was carried out, he had left the camp for India, Moideen also said.
The NIA has informed the Home Ministry that is had no objection to the French police questioning Moideen. An NIA official said that since Moideen is in judicial custody the French police would need the permission of the High Court. We would not object to their plea, the officer also informed.
