Haryana Polices Heavy-Handed Response to Guest Teachers Protest Draws Condemnation

Police Intervention

According to the police, the teachers intended to gherao the education minister's residence without obtaining permission for the demonstration. As a result, they were stopped by the police.

Guest Teachers' Claims

A body representing the guest teachers asserted that 20 teachers sustained injuries during the police action. Among the injured was Rajinder Shastri, the President of the Guest Teachers Associations Haryana State. He was admitted to a hospital in Yamunanagar.

Political Condemnation

Congress leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Randeep Singh Surjewala strongly condemned the police action against the teachers. Hooda expressed his disapproval in a post on X, stating, "In the harsh winter, the BJP-JJP government lathicharged the guest teachers in Yamunanagar. No amount of condemnation for this act will be enough. Going back on one's election promises and lathicharging teachers who are protesting peacefully is against democratic norms. People will not forget this cruelty."

Surjewala also took to X to express his disapproval, saying, "Lathicharge on guest teachers in Yamunanagar is condemnable. The government should talk to these teachers and not lathicharge them. The entire state is troubled by this dictatorial attitude, and the public will give an answer to this."

The incident in Yamunanagar has sparked outrage and drawn criticism from political leaders and the public. The guest teachers' demand for regularization of their services remains unresolved, and the use of force against peaceful protesters has raised concerns about democratic rights and the treatment of educators in the state.
