Death Toll Rises to 12 in Suspected Liquor Poisoning Case in Haryana

With the death of five more people, the toll in a suspected case of poisoning due to the consumption of spurious liquor has climbed to 12 in Haryana. Opposition parties criticize government's failure to prevent such incidents.

In a tragic turn of events, the consumption of suspected spurious liquor has resulted in the loss of 12 lives in Haryana. The fatalities have cast a shadow over the state, with questions being raised about regulatory oversights and enforcement lapses. As families mourn their loved ones, political parties are pointing fingers at the state government for not taking adequate measures to prevent such incidents.

liquor poisoning

Officials confirmed on Friday that five more individuals succumbed to poisoning from what is believed to be counterfeit alcohol. This brings the total number of casualties to 12 across two districts: Yamunanagar and Ambala. In Yamunanagar alone, ten people have lost their lives due to this tragedy. Neighbouring Ambala district accounts for two deaths.

Political Backlash Amidst Grief

The series of deaths has sparked outrage among opposition parties including Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). They have criticized Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's administration for its apparent inability to learn from past tragedies involving illicit liquor. With each death reported, calls grow louder for accountability and action from authorities.

New Deaths Reported

On Friday alone, three additional victims were reported dead in Yamunanagar district—increasing concerns about the spread and reach of this deadly batch of illegal alcohol. The deceased hailed from various villages within the district like Mandebari, Panjeto Ka Majra, Phoosgarh, and Saran.

Migrant Labourers Among Victims

In an unfortunate revelation by police officials in Ambala district on Thursday; it was disclosed that two migrant labourers hailing from Uttar Pradesh also fell prey to this crisis. These men had consumed spurious liquor allegedly produced illegally within Ambala district itself before passing away at Mullana Medical College after their health deteriorated significantly.

The Source and Scope of Illegal Operation

Ambala police uncovered that approximately 200 boxes containing counterfeit alcohol were manufactured at an abandoned factory premise before being distributed amongst those now arrested in connection with these deaths in Yamunanagar. Law enforcement seized materials associated with production including empty drums which are believed to have been used for concocting illicit spirits.

Ongoing Investigations & Arrests

To address this critical situation head-on; Yamunanagar Police established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with probing into these poisonings while making several arrests linked directly with manufacturing or distributing these lethal drinks—seven individuals so far detained by SIT hail from Yamunanagar itself whereas another two apprehended belong specifically to Ambala where they were allegedly active producers within this illegal operation as per Mullana Station House Officer Surender's statement on Thursday.

This incident serves as a grim reminder that despite stringent laws against unlicensed distillation and sale of liquor; there exists an underbelly thriving on illegal activities which endanger public health severely when unchecked or inadequately monitored by respective authorities—a reality all too familiar yet devastating every time it resurfaces through such catastrophic consequences as witnessed currently across parts of Haryana State today leaving communities shattered amidst calls for justice echoing loudly throughout India once again following similar occurrences previously too often than acceptable by any measure whatsoever regardless where one stands politically speaking especially given how precious life truly is beyond mere statistics representing losses incurred unfortunately enough herein contextually speaking ultimately demanding earnest introspection plus immediate rectification moving forward henceforth without fail accordingly indeed!
