Haryana's Innovative Pension Scheme For Trees Aims To Foster Conservation Efforts

The Haryana government is promoting tree plantation. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's government has directed efforts to maintain trees and raise awareness about planting. To encourage community participation, the 'Van Mitra' scheme was launched in Chandigarh this week.

Haryana is also running the 'Pran Vayu Devta' scheme. Under this scheme, the state government has released a pension of Rs 2,750 to 120 old trees for the first year. These trees are between 75 and 150 years old and are located in different panchayats and urban areas.

The forest department is giving incentives for the protection of nine species of trees. The trees included in the scheme are Peepal, Bargad, Pilkhan, Chaar Jaandi, Neem, Jaal, Kaim, and Kendu. Haryana is the first state to give a pension to trees.

In Chandigarh, the 'Pran Vayu Devta' scheme brochure was launched. On Monday, a review meeting of the forest and wildlife department was held in Chandigarh. During this meeting, the 'Van Mitra' scheme was launched to encourage community participation in tree plantation activities.

Sanjay Singh, Minister of State for Forest and Wildlife, was present at the event. The 'Pran Vayu Devta' scheme aims to protect trees by providing financial help of Rs 2,500 per month for trees that are 75 years or older.

Recently, in Karnal, the district forest department released the first-year pension of Rs 2,750 to 120 trees aged between 75 and 150 years. With this scheme, Haryana has become the first state in India to give a pension to trees.
