Haryana Congress Worker Himani Narwal Allegedly Murdered Over Soured Relationship, Blackmail: Reports

The suspect arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Haryana Congress worker Himani Narwal has confessed to the crime, revealing during police interrogation that they had been in a relationship for some time, sources have said.

Sachin was apprehended in Delhi on Monday, two days after Himani's body was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase near a bus stand in Rohtak.

During his arrest, Sachin was found in possession of Himani's mobile phone. A resident of Bahadurgarh in Haryana, he informed the police that Himani had extorted large sums of money from him and was demanding more. He also accused her of blackmailing him, reported India Today.

Frustrated by the persistent financial demands, Sachin admitted to killing Himani at her home in Rohtak. Himani, who resided at her ancestral house in Vijay Nagar, Rohtak, gained prominence after images of her walking with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra went viral.

Police sources revealed that the suitcase in which Himani's body was found belonged to her residence. Sachin told officers that after committing the murder, he placed her body in the suitcase and abandoned it at the bus stand.

Himani's family had refused to cremate her until those responsible for her murder were arrested. Following Sachin's arrest, her relatives demanded the death penalty.

"One accused has been arrested, and today we will perform her last rites. Many rumours are circulating in the media... We will get justice... We want the death penalty for the accused," Himani's brother Jatin told *ANI*.

Earlier, Himani's mother, Savita, suggested to reporters that the murder could have involved someone within the party, as certain Congress leaders were envious of her daughter's rapid rise through the ranks. "It could be someone in the party who was jealous of her success, or it could be someone else," she remarked.
