Haryana Congress Challenges Z-Plus Security for Ex-CM Khattar, Alleges Bias

The Haryana Congress has raised concerns over the allocation of Z-Plus security cover to former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, spotlighting what it perceives as unequal treatment in security provisions among politicians. This issue has sparked a debate on the criteria used for extending such high-level security and its implications on electoral fairness.

Congress Questions Khattars Z-Plus Security

Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed, addressing the media, highlighted that Manohar Lal Khattar, who is also a BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from the Karnal seat, has been accorded Z-Plus security cover. Ahmed questioned the basis of this decision, especially when other former Chief Ministers like Om Prakash Chautala and Bhupinder Singh Hooda have not been granted similar security measures.

The contention revolves around the perceived discrimination in providing security covers to politicians, which, according to Ahmed, could potentially influence voters negatively. The call for action includes urging the Election Commission to review this decision to ensure a level playing field for all candidates without discrimination in the name of security.

It was after Nayab Singh Saini succeeded Khattar as Chief Minister in March that the Haryana government opted to continue Khattar's Z-Plus security cover. This decision was justified by citing threat assessments that purportedly necessitated the highest level of protection for him.

The debate brings to light the complexities involved in the allocation of security details to public figures and raises questions about the criteria and processes governing such decisions. The Haryana Congress's appeal to the Election Commission underscores the need for transparency and equality in security provisions, especially in the context of ensuring fair electoral practices.
