Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini Celebrates Chhath Puja at Brahmasarovar in Kurukshetra

On Thursday evening, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini took part in the state-level Chhath Puja at Brahmasarovar in Kurukshetra, offering sandhya arghya to the setting sun. He extended warm wishes for a joyful Chhath festival. Later, he expressed pride in witnessing the faith and grandeur of the festival at this revered pilgrimage site.

Saini Celebrates Chhath Puja at Brahmasarovar

Saini highlighted that Chhath Puja is one of the most sacred festivals dedicated to Surya Narayan, the Sun God, symbolising energy and life force. The festival is celebrated with the belief that it fulfills wishes and brings prosperity and progress. He noted that the tradition of Chhath Puja dates back to the Mahabharata era, with Suryaputra Karna being the first to honour the Sun God.

Chhath Festival's Cultural Significance

The chief minister mentioned Karnal, a city associated with Karna, lies just 35 km from Kurukshetra. He said that even today, the influence of Surya Puja is strongly felt in Karnal. The Haryana government has constructed a bathing ghat costing Rs 4.48 crore on the Western Yamuna Canal opposite the Suryanarayana Temple in Karnal.

An additional ghat has been built under the Smart City project nearby. These ghats serve as important sites for worship during Chhath festival, with many women participating in rituals. Saini stated that Chhath festival exemplifies the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

Chhath Festival's Environmental Message

Saini emphasised that Chhath conveys a message of love for nature and highlights the importance of keeping our water and air clean while fostering social harmony. He pointed out that worshipping the Sun God reflects our deep cultural and spiritual connection with nature.

Through Chhath Puja, we are reminded of sunlight's significance in our lives. "While everyone worships the rising sun, Chhath Puja honours every form of the sun, including the setting sun," he added. This teaches us to approach both life's highs and lows with the same spirit.

Celebrations Across Haryana

Earlier in Karnal, Saini attended the Chhath Mahaparva Mahotsav as chief guest. Addressing devotees, he said, "It is my great fortune to participate in the Chhath Mahaparva Mahotsav in Karnal, the city of Surya Putra Mahavir Danveer Karna." He extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all mothers and sisters on this auspicious occasion.

"May Chhath Maiya always bless you with happiness and prosperity," he added. This traditional Purvanchal festival has transcended regional boundaries and is now celebrated enthusiastically across India. An official statement mentioned that Saini performed Maha Aarti, praying for prosperity and well-being for Haryana's citizens and beyond.

The rituals were accompanied by mantra chanting, marking a deeply spiritual occasion. The Kurukshetra district administration ensured smooth conduct of the mahotsav by providing ample facilities for devotees who gathered in large numbers.
