Haryana Chief Minister Saini Holds onto Key Home Department in Cabinet Reshuffle

In a significant development within the Haryana state government, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who assumed office on March 12, has finalized the allocation of portfolios among his council of ministers. This move comes shortly after the cabinet was expanded, introducing new faces and reshuffling responsibilities.

CM Saini Keeps Home Dept

The distribution of portfolios was officially announced late Friday night, marking a pivotal moment in the governance of Haryana under Chief Minister Saini's leadership. Retaining crucial departments, Chief Minister Saini will oversee the Home, Revenue and Disaster Management, Youth Empowerment, Information and Public Relations, Languages and Culture, Mines and Geology, and Foreign Cooperation departments. This allocation underscores the strategic importance of these sectors in the state's administration.

Notably, the Home Department, a key portfolio in any state government, has transitioned from Anil Vij to Chief Minister Saini. Anil Vij, a prominent figure in the previous Manohar Lal Khattar-led cabinet, did not secure a position in the current cabinet.

Cabinet Minister Kanwar Pal has been entrusted with significant responsibilities including Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Heritage and Tourism, and Parliamentary Affairs. These departments are vital for the state's economic development and cultural preservation.

Mool Chand Sharma has been assigned the Industry and Commerce, Labour, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs departments. His portfolio suggests a focus on industrial growth and welfare measures for the state's residents.

Ranjit Singh continues to hold the Energy and Jails departments from his tenure in the previous government, indicating continuity in these critical areas.

Recent Political Developments

The appointment of Nayab Singh Saini as Chief Minister came as a surprise move by the BJP, replacing Manohar Lal Khattar ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. This strategic decision introduces OBC leader Saini as Haryana's new chief minister in a bid to strengthen the party's position in the state.

The new council of ministers saw its first expansion on March 19 with eight BJP MLAs being inducted, seven of whom are new faces. This expansion reflects an effort to infuse fresh energy and perspectives into the state's governance.

The Saini government successfully secured confidence in a trust vote during a special session of the state assembly last Wednesday. This victory underscores the support and trust that the newly formed government enjoys among the assembly members.

This reshuffling of portfolios and induction of new ministers signals a new direction for Haryana's governance under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's leadership. With a focus on key sectors such as agriculture, industry, and youth empowerment, the state looks forward to addressing its challenges and capitalizing on opportunities for growth and development.
