Haryana BJP Leader Alleges Forced Surrender of Pehowa Seat Ticket

BJP leader Kamaljeet Singh Ajrana has refuted claims that he willingly gave up his party ticket for the Pehowa assembly seat in the upcoming October 5 elections. He asserted that he was compelled to relinquish the ticket. Ajrana, a prominent Sikh figure, was initially announced as the BJP candidate for Pehowa on September 4.

BJP Leaders Forced Ticket Surrender

Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli stated on Tuesday that Ajrana had voluntarily surrendered his nomination. However, Ajrana countered this claim, saying, "Nobody is that foolish to surrender an election ticket allotted to him by a national party." He alleged that some BJP members in Pehowa falsely accused him of having ties with the Pakistan Army.

Allegations and Defamation

Ajrana explained that he led a 3,000-strong Sikh delegation to Kartarpur in Pakistan in December 2021 for Guru Nanak Dev's Parkash Utsav. During this visit, they were welcomed by senior officials and leaders from Pakistan. A cake was arranged for his birthday on December 5 by Pakistani officials, which some miscreants are now using to defame him.

The BJP replaced Ajrana with Jai Bhagwan Sharma as their candidate for Pehowa. This decision has sparked significant resentment among the Sikh community in Haryana, particularly in Pehowa and Kurukshetra. Many Sikhs feel that a Sikh leader has been mistreated by the party.

Community Backlash

A large number of Sikhs held a protest at Chhenwi Patshahi Gurdwara and later marched to the Chowk near the old Bus stand. Giani Variyam Singh and other protesting leaders expressed their anger, stating that the BJP had wronged a Sikh leader and vowed to teach the party a lesson in the assembly elections.

Ajrana is also a nominated member of an ad-hoc committee set up by the state government to manage the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee's affairs. His wife, Ravinder Kaur, serves as the junior vice president of the same committee. Ajrana joined the BJP in July.

Political Implications

The controversy surrounding Ajrana’s ticket withdrawal has broader political implications. The incident highlights internal conflicts within the BJP and raises questions about how minority leaders are treated within the party. The backlash from the Sikh community could impact BJP's performance in Haryana's assembly elections.

Ajrana’s claims of being forced out and defamed have added fuel to an already tense situation. The allegations against him and his subsequent replacement have created a rift between the BJP and its Sikh supporters. This development could influence voter sentiment and election outcomes.

The situation remains fluid as both sides present their narratives. The BJP maintains that Ajrana stepped down voluntarily, while Ajrana insists he was coerced. The unfolding events will be closely watched as they may affect political dynamics in Haryana ahead of the elections.

The controversy over Kamaljeet Singh Ajrana’s ticket has stirred significant unrest among Sikhs in Haryana. With protests and strong statements from community leaders, this issue is likely to remain a focal point in the lead-up to the assembly polls.
