Haryana Assembly Election: Schools To Remain Closed Today, Tomorrow As State Heads For Polls On Oct 5

With elections in Haryana set for Saturday, schools across the state will remain closed on October 4 and 5. Several schools have been designated as polling stations, necessitating their closure on October 4 to allow time for necessary preparations ahead of the voting.

The two-day closure applies to all government, semi-government, and private schools throughout Haryana.

The 2024 Haryana Assembly election will take place in a single phase on October 5, with polling scheduled from 7 am to 6 pm. The results will be declared on October 8.

Campaigning for the election concluded yesterday, October 3, at 6 pm, as political parties made their final push for votes.

The BJP, Congress, AAP, and the JJP-Azad Samaj Party all conducted rallies and roadshows on October 3, in a last-minute appeal to voters before the crucial state elections.

Over two crore voters are eligible to participate in this election, with 20,629 polling stations established across the state, according to officials quoted by news agency PTI.

The BJP, aiming for a third consecutive term in power, had Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading their campaign. PM Modi addressed four rallies across the state, where he took aim at the Congress.

During his speeches, PM Modi accused the Congress, particularly its leader Rahul Gandhi, of complicating several issues, including the Ram temple matter.

On the final day of campaigning, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a public meeting in Nuh, the site of last year's violence where a mob attacked a VHP procession, resulting in six deaths, including two home guards and a cleric.

In his address, Gandhi predicted a "Congress storm" in Haryana that would prioritise policies for the poor and farmers. He also declared that a "mohabbat ki dukan" (a shop of love) would be opened in every corner of the state.
