Haryana and NFSU Collaborate to Boost Forensic Science Capabilities

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Haryana and the National Forensic Science University (NFSU), Gandhinagar, Gujarat on Saturday.

This agreement aims to establish a Centre of Excellence in Training and Laboratory Testing Facility in Forensic Science for cases under Haryana's flagship crime scheme.

Haryana-NFSU MoU Boosts Forensic Science

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Sh. Manoj Lal, Haryana Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal, Haryana Assembly Speaker Sh. Gian Chand Gupta, and other ministers and senior officers attended the event.

The MoU's objective is to enhance collaborative activities in forensic and prosecutorial training, research, and testing of forensic samples. The NFSUniversity will provide guidance and expertise for research and testing of forensic samples. Judicial officers, public prosecutors, police, and other investigating agencies will receive training in forensic analysis and other aspects of criminal justice delivery in consultation with NFSUniversity, under the aegis of Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA).

This initiative will bolster the criminal justice system in Haryana. It aims to identify serious crimes, collect actionable forensic evidence, especially for offences with imprisonment of six years or more, and ensure speedy trials. This will enhance the conviction rate and improve overall safety and security in the state.

It is noteworthy that the Government of Haryana has already signed an MoU with NFSUniversity for testing Drugs and Psychotropic Substances. This new MoU will further strengthen this collaboration. A proposal for setting up a Regional Campus of the National Forensic Science University in Haryana on 50 acres of land has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs for consideration.

Chief Secretary Sh. TVSN Prasad, Vice-Chancellor of NFSUniversity Dr. JM Vyas, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department Sh. Anurag Rastogi, Director General of Police Sh. Shatrujeet Kapoor, Director General Prosecution Sh. Sanjay Hooda, Director General HIPA Smt. Chandra Lekha Mukherjee, and other dignitaries were present at the signing ceremony.

This MoU follows a decision made at the Chintan Shivir held in Surajkund under the chairmanship of the Union Home Minister. The establishment of this Centre of Excellence will help Haryana achieve its objectives under its flagship crime scheme.

The Centre will provide state-of-the-art facilities for forensic science training and laboratory testing. The collaboration aims to improve forensic analysis capabilities in Haryana significantly.

This step is expected to lead to better handling of heinous crimes by ensuring that forensic evidence is collected effectively and used to secure convictions.

The collaboration between Haryana and NFSUniversity marks a significant step towards enhancing forensic science capabilities in the region.
