Harvard University lecture row: Misa Bharti clarifies she never made such claims

New Delhi, March 11: Misa Bharti, daughter of RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, who was caught in a controversy for allegedly posting photos showing as an invited speaker at Harvard University's India conference, on Wednesday denied the allegations raised against her.

The 40-year-old has allegedly posted photos on her Facebook page on Saturday, March 7, 2015. The picture shows Misa Bharti standing on the stage and addressing the audience.

In a fresh Facebook post, Misa denied that she never claimed to be a speaker at the conference.

Misa Bharti has taken photos after attending the conference and these were later published in the mainstream newspapers of Bihar .

While responding to the controversy, the Harvard University released a statement saying, "Misa Bharti was invited as part of the audience and not as a speaker of any panel at the India Conference at Harvard. Her attendee status can also be confirmed from the fact that she had to purchase a ticket as an audience. She was not invited to deliver any lecture."

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has also reacted to the controversy. Lalu defended his daughter and underlined that Misa never claimed that she went to the Harvard to deliver the lecture.

"Misa was invited as a guest. She paid for this visit. She never claimed that she was there to deliver a speech at the university. She clicked the photos at podium as a part of memory. She went there to learn something," said Lalu Prasad.

Misa earlier admitted that she had posted some photos solo and with other guests on Facebook to share with friends and supporters.

She also made it clear that this included her picture on the forum, which is a popular common venue to take signature pics by people at Harvard.
