Eminent lawyer Harish Salve is likely to represent former Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam in the Election Commission on Wednesday. Members of Panneerselvam's camp took to Twitter to announce the same. Salve, a former solicitor general of India is likely to argue for Panneerselvam and defend his claim to the AIADMK's two leaves symbol. The EC is set to give its verdict on the AIADMK's symbol and who it belongs to on Wednesday.

The eminent jurist specialises in constitutional, commercial and taxation laws. Apart from representing prominent people in the Supreme Court, as well as various high courts, Salve has also appeared in international arbitral disputes as counsel as well as adjudicator.

Pannerselvam had staked claim to the symbol deeming his faction the 'original AIADMK' and had submitted signatures of over 4 lakh cadres who supported his claim. The party's Sasikala Natarajan camp had responded to the EC's notice over the claim on Tuesday. It had submitted affidavits claiming support of general council members. The EC can choose to give the symbol to either party, or freeze the symbol and ask both the camps to fight on different symbols in the upcoming R K Nagar bypoll.
