Himachal Pradesh Welfare Board Relocates Office to Hamirpur to Enhance Stakeholder Access

The Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board chairman expressed support for the state Cabinet's decision to relocate its offices from Shimla to Hamirpur. This shift is expected to enhance administrative efficiency by bringing operations closer to the stakeholders. Nardev Singh Kanwar, the chairman, pledged to resolve half of the pending scholarship, medical, and other beneficiary cases by March 31.

Welfare Board Moves Office to Hamirpur

During the welfare board's 47th board of directors meeting, several issues affecting registered workers were discussed. A new sub-office will be established at Balichowki in Mandi district. This aims to accommodate the increasing number of registrations and benefit claims, particularly from remote areas. The new sub-office is intended to ease the workload on existing facilities and improve service accessibility.

Focus on Worker Welfare

Kanwar reiterated the board's commitment to its beneficiaries by announcing a dedicated helpline for addressing workers' concerns. The board also approved administrative approvals and expenditure sanctions for purchasing office supplies for Dharampur and other sub-offices. These measures are part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and support workers effectively.

To boost revenue, the board recommended raising the cess on constructions by multinational companies, hotels, malls, and petrol pumps. This proposal aims to generate additional funds for the welfare initiatives. Before the meeting, discussions were held with Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) members regarding workers' concerns.

The CITU members received assurances that the state government is committed to addressing their issues. Efforts are being made to improve conditions for workers and ensure their welfare is prioritised. The collaboration with CITU highlights a shared dedication to enhancing worker welfare in Himachal Pradesh.

The decision to move offices and establish a new sub-office reflects a strategic approach to improving service delivery. By focusing on accessibility and efficiency, the welfare board aims to better serve its beneficiaries across the state.
