Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority to Install Smart Traffic Lights at 32 Junctions for Improved Traffic Management
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) plans to install smart traffic lights at 32 junctions in sectors 58 to 115 of Gurugram. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion, as stated in an official announcement. The Tender Allotment Committee, led by A Sreenivas, GMDA's Chief Executive Officer, approved the project allocation.

The project is part of Phase 2 of the smart traffic signal initiative and will cost Rs 7.46 crore. The work is expected to commence in November and is scheduled for completion within six months from the award date. The installation will enhance traffic management and pedestrian movement in these areas.
Smart Traffic Signals with Advanced Features
According to R D Singhal, Chief General Manager of the Mobility Division, a survey identified 32 junctions for the installation of smart traffic signals. These signals will incorporate Adaptive Traffic Control Systems (ATCS) to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, thereby enhancing the commuting experience for residents.
The smart traffic lights will include vehicle detector cameras at all locations. These cameras will assess vehicular flow at intersections, allowing the signals to adjust timings automatically. This feature ensures a smoother flow of traffic by extending green light durations when necessary.
Enhancing Safety and Emergency Response
In addition to improving vehicular flow, the smart lights will create green corridors prioritising emergency vehicles. Pedestrian signal lights will also be installed to ensure pedestrian safety and facilitate seamless movement at busy junctions.
The GMDA's initiative reflects a commitment to modernising Gurugram's traffic infrastructure. By integrating advanced technology into traffic management, the city aims to provide a more efficient and safer commuting environment for its citizens.
