Gurgaon: Britannica COO jumps to death from 19th floor of his apartment

Gurgaon, May 16: Britannica Chief Operating Officer (COO) Vineet Whig on Sunday, May 15 committed suicide by jumping from 19th floor of his building at DLF Phase 3 in Gurgaon.

Whig, who working as the COO of South Asia division of Encylopedia Britannica, left behind a suicide note that said that he is "fed up with his life".

According to police, Whig lived in Block D of DLF Belvedere Park but he jumped to his death from the ventilation shaft at 19th floor in Block C.

His dead body was recovered on the ground floor of the shaft by sweepers around 9 am on Sunday, after which his family members were informed. Police was called at 9.45 am. His body was sent for post-mortem, after which it was handed over to his family for last rites.

Police is looking into the CCTV footage to ascertain how Whig took the extreme step of ending his life.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and his father. 47-year-old Whig's father OM Whig suffered a heart attack on the shocking death of his son, following which he was hospitalised.

Whig had a passion for photography and his pictures were even published in National Geographic Traveler.
