Shots Fired at Delhi Shops in Possible Extortion Scheme, Police Investigate

Motorcycle-borne gunmen fired shots outside a sweet shop and a jewellery store in two separate incidents in Delhi, which police suspect were related to extortion, officials said on Saturday. No one was injured in the shootings that occurred within 24 hours, officials added.

Delhi Shops Targeted in Extortion Bid

The first incident occurred outside Singla Sweet Shop in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar at 11 pm on Friday. Customers and workers were present when two men on a motorcycle fired shots at the shop's front glass before fleeing, according to a police officer. Four empty cartridges were recovered from the scene.

Extortion Demands and Investigation

According to the officer, the sweet shop owner had received an extortion call from a gangster named Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu, two weeks ago. The caller demanded Rs 2 crore from the owner. An FIR has been registered under relevant laws, and an investigation has begun. Multiple teams have been formed to gather more information and trace the assailants' route.

The second incident took place at a jewellery store in northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area on Saturday evening. Another police officer stated that two shooters arrived on a motorcycle and fired shots into the air outside the shop. They threw a slip of paper demanding Rs 1 crore in extortion money from the jeweller.

Gang Involvement and Police Response

The gunmen identified themselves as members of the Bambiha Gang, sources revealed. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. The police are working to trace the assailants and gather more details about their activities.

The incidents have raised concerns about safety and security in the area. Authorities are urging business owners to report any suspicious activities or threats they may receive. The police are also increasing patrols and surveillance to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Both cases highlight the ongoing issue of extortion by criminal gangs in Delhi. The police are committed to addressing this problem and ensuring the safety of residents and business owners.

Officials are confident that with increased efforts and cooperation from the public, they will be able to apprehend those responsible for these crimes. The investigation continues as authorities work to bring justice to the victims.
