Evacuation Efforts by the Indian Army

The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army stepped in to provide immediate assistance, evacuating 68 civilians, including 30 men and women and eight children. In addition, they offered meals, shelter, and medical aid to 137 tourists who were stranded. The army's swift actions helped to alleviate the distress of those caught in the adverse conditions.

In a separate rescue operation, the Chinar Corps also evacuated a pregnant woman from Kulgam district. Amid the heavy snowfall, the woman was transported from Munad village to the Government Hospital in Yaripora, where she received immediate medical attention.

Heavy Snowfall and Traffic Disruptions

The Valley's first snowfall of the season has led to severe disruptions across the region. On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reported that nearly 2,000 vehicles were stranded at Qazigund in Anantnag district. The snowfall caused significant delays, particularly on high-altitude roads, prompting efforts to clear the stranded vehicles. Heavy vehicles were given priority to move, while authorities continued to work on resolving the situation.

Rescue Operations on Mughal Road

In another incident, six individuals stranded due to heavy snowfall on the Mughal Road in Poonch district were rescued by local police. The snowstorm left two vehicles stuck at Chattapani, with their occupants unable to move. A police team was promptly dispatched to rescue the stranded individuals, ensuring their safety amid the harsh conditions.

Weather Forecast and Safety Measures

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated light rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir until December 30. Authorities have advised travelers to exercise caution, especially in snow-prone and high-altitude areas, and stay updated on weather conditions before embarking on journeys.

The recent snowfall has tested the resilience of the region's infrastructure, but the swift response from the Indian Army and local authorities has ensured the safety and well-being of the stranded tourists and civilians.
