Gujarat to Prioritize Agniveers in Armed Police, SRP Recruitment

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced on Friday that Agniveers will be prioritised in the recruitment for armed police and the State Reserve Police Force (SRP). This declaration coincided with the 25th anniversary of India's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war. Agniveers are soldiers selected for a four-year term under the Agnipath scheme, introduced by the Union government to maintain a youthful profile in the armed forces.

In a post on X, Patel stated, "The misinformation being spread by the opposition regarding the scheme is both absurd and condemnable." He emphasised that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, numerous reforms are being implemented in the Indian Army and internal security system. "Agnipath scheme is also one such initiative," he added.

Reforms and Youthful Profile

The Agnipath scheme aims to create a more youthful Indian Army. It prepares young individuals who, after their service, will significantly contribute to strengthening national security. Patel highlighted that this initiative would produce brave youth who will continue to serve the country even after their military tenure ends.

Other states have also announced similar measures for Agniveers. This move reflects a broader trend across India to integrate these trained individuals into various state security forces.
