Ahmedabad, Aug 5: Vijay Rupani will be the new Chief Minister of Gujarat. Nitin Patel will be the deputy chief minister of the state, the BJP announced today.
OneIndia broke the news first on August 2, three days before the official announcement was made by union minister and senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.

There was a lot of speculation about who would succeed Anandiben Patel. Several names had done the rounds, but it was Rupani's administrative skills and tact in handling issues apart from the fact that he is close to both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah, bagged him the post.
Apart from Rupani, Nitin Patel was a strong contender for the post. The name of Purushottam Rupala was also doing the rounds.
The BJP leadership which met today decided on the name of Rupani, as he is considered to be an able administrator.
