The Ahmedabad International Airport on Monday received a bomb threat letter where the sender threatened to blow up the airport.

Authorities discovered a threat letter on board a Jeddah-Ahmedabad flight after it landed. The note, found under a seat by cleaning staff, warned of an explosion at the airport. Security forces, including local police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), thoroughly searched the aircraft but found nothing suspicious.

"A letter written by an unknown person was found at Sardar Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad threatening to blow up the airport," ANI quoted Sharad Singhal, JCP Ahmedabad Crime Branch, in a tweet.

He added, "A flight carrying passengers from Jeddah landed at the Ahmedabad airport in the morning. After all the passengers alighted, the cleaning staff found a note with a threat to blow up the flight. Local police, along with security agencies, have started the investigation."

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Sharad Singhal confirmed that forensic experts have been called to examine fingerprints and handwriting samples from passengers to identify the sender of the threat. Investigations are ongoing, and security has been heightened at the airport.

In the last year, there has been a massive increase in such threats to flights. However, all threats have turned out to be hoaxes.

Going by government data, domestic airlines received 1,143 hoax bomb threats between August 2022 and November 13, 2024. Of these, a 994 incidents occurred in 2024.
