Srinagar's Lal Chowk Hosts First Grand Diwali Celebration with Locals and Tourists

A grand Diwali celebration took place for the first time near the historic clock tower at Lal Chowk on Thursday. Hundreds of locals and tourists gathered to light diyas, marking the festival of lights. The city centre, bustling with tourists during the day, transformed into a vibrant scene in the evening as Diwali was celebrated with enthusiasm and joy.

Diwali Festivities Illuminate Lal Chowk

Officials noted that this was the first time such a large-scale Diwali event occurred at the city centre. The market area was beautifully lit up, creating a festive atmosphere that attracted both residents and visitors. Rashmi, a tourist from Rajkot, Gujarat, expressed her delight, saying, "I am feeling very happy to be here. The atmosphere here is very great. I have not witnessed such a festive atmosphere anywhere."

Manish, another tourist, shared his gratitude towards the local community. "We are thankful to the people of Kashmir who supported us and joined in our celebrations," he said. The event was secured by a significant security presence to ensure everything went smoothly.

Tourists Praise Peaceful Atmosphere

A tourist from Gujarat described the experience as truly representative of "Naya Kashmir." They remarked, "We had never thought that we could celebrate Diwali in such a grand manner here. The atmosphere is electric. It is much better than what we see in Gujarat. I want to tell everyone that there is no threat here, everything is peaceful and locals are supportive."
