'GPS is not the only solution to ensure women safety'

Bengaluru, Mar 16: Installing Global Positioning System (GPS) in all Delhi cabs is not the only solution to ensure women safety in Capital, says Delhi Taxis' Union.

Union has planned to launch a series of protest if government does not withdraw its dictum.

The sharp reaction from Union was after Delhi government ordered all taxi operators to install GPS devices in their vehicles.

The government's decision will be enforced on all types of taxis, including radio taxis and black-and-yellow cabs, plying in different parts of city.

The government has also made it clear that they will not be issued fitness certificates unless they install GPS in their vehicles.

The demand for compulsory installation of GPS gained force after 'Uber cab incident', where a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by the cab driver.

There are as many as 15,000 cabs, including black-and-yellow taxis and Delhi-NCR taxis, plying across the capital.

Delhiites have welcomed government's order and said that GPS and panic button in taxis will help women feel safe while travelling.
