Govt to adopt LPG subsidy transfer model for PDS food grain
The government is planning to adopt LPG-like subsidy transfer model for public distribution system of subsidised foodgrain. The initiative will ensure zero leakage of the subsidy and food grain as well.
The beneficiaries will get the subsidy amount in advance in their bank accounts to buy food grain from any ration shop equipped with the electronic point of sale devices.

The ministry recently deputed three trainee IAS officers to assess the ground situation in Ranchi where a pilot is likely to be rolled out.
At present, 81 crore identified beneficiaries get subsidised foodgrains at Rs 1-3 per kg from ration shops.
The government has adopted several measures such as seeding of Aadhaar cards of 23 crore ration card holders, besides installing electronic point of sale (e-PoS) machines at fair price shops (FPSs) to curb diversion of subsidised foodgrains.
