Manipur Violence: Centre Sets Up Committee To Facilitate Peace-Making Process
The central government has constituted a committee in Manipur headed by the governor to facilitate the peace-making process among various ethnic groups and initiate dialogue between conflicting parties.
The members of the committee include Chief Minister, a few Ministers in the State Government, MP, MLAs, and leaders from different political parties. The Committee also includes former civil servants, educationists, litterateurs, artists, social workers, and representatives of different ethnic groups.

The mandate of the Committee will be to facilitate the peace-making process among various ethnic groups of the State, including peaceful dialogue and negotiations between conflicting parties/groups. The Committee should strengthen social cohesiveness, mutual understanding and facilitate cordial communication between various ethnic groups.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the state of Manipur from 29th May 2023 to 1st June 2023 and announced the constitution of the Peace Committee after taking stock of the situation.
The Home Minister also announced that a CBI probe will be instituted to investigate five criminal conspiracies and one general conspiracy behind the violence in Manipur.
Ethnic clashes broke out in the state nearly a month ago after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
After a relative lull for over a fortnight, the state witnessed a spurt in clashes and gunfights between militants and security forces on Sunday.
Nearly 100 people have been killed in the violence so far.
