Govt, bank staff to be Red Cross members

Odisha
Berhampur (Odisha), Sept 27: Kandhamal district administration in Odisha is planning to enroll government and bank employees as life members of the district Red Cross Society.

It is being seen as an attempt to raise funds for the society, which extends financial support to the needy.

"The amount being spent is more than the collection," said Kandhamal district Collector T Nayak. In 2012-13, the society had raised around Rs 2 lakh, while the expenditure amounted to Rs 4 lakh.

"We have written to different departments, asking them to make their employees life members of the society by depositing Rs 500," he said, adding "but it is not mandatory." "We will soon dispatch letters to different banks operating in the district for the purpose," he added.
