UP News: Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Played a Key Role in the Development and Reform of Uttar Pradesh: CM Yogi

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to Govind Ballabh Pant, honouring his contributions as a freedom fighter, UP’s first Chief Minister, and Union Home Minister, and emphasising Pant’s lasting impact on Uttar Pradesh development and governance.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday paid tribute to former Union Home Minister and the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, on his death anniversary. The Chief Minister offered floral tributes at Pant's statue located at Lok Bhavan and remembered him as a great son of India, a prominent freedom fighter, an accomplished lawyer, and a capable administrator.

Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi said that the life and work of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant remain a source of inspiration and continue to guide the path of governance and development even today. He noted that Pant took several important steps for the development and reform of Uttar Pradesh during his tenure.

The Chief Minister said that Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant was born in present-day Uttarakhand, which at that time was part of the United Provinces. Responding to the call of Mahatma Gandhi, he left his successful legal career and joined the freedom movement. During the British era, he was elected as the Premier of the United Provinces in 1937 and later became widely known as the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

CM Yogi highlighted that as Chief Minister, Pant laid a strong foundation for the state's development and presented a visionary roadmap that continues to influence Uttar Pradesh's progress even today. He said that the achievements of the state in the present time are deeply rooted in the vision and policies introduced by Pant. The Chief Minister further stated that Pant also made significant contributions as the Union Home Minister of India and played an important role in promoting Hindi as the official language of the country. In recognition of his immense contribution to India's freedom struggle and his distinguished service to the nation and Uttar Pradesh, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1957. Several dignitaries were present on the occasion, including Minister of State for Agriculture Baldev Singh Aulakh, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, MLAs Jai Devi and Amresh Kumar, and Member of the Legislative Council Mukesh Sharma, among others.
