Government wants to make Uttarakhand a tourist hub with maximum revenue generation from it

Tehri (Garhwal): The Uttarakhand government is working on developing the entire state, especially the regions around Tehri Dam, as a tourist destination. The focus is more on augmenting infrastructure. The government is working in tandem with the Center to land even sea plane in the dam to attract more and more tourists. Actually the government wants to break the stereotype that is attached with the state that it caters to religious tourism only. It will celebrate two-day National Lake Festival from May 25 to attract more and more tourists.

Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat told One India, "We are a small state with limited resources of revenue but tourism is the area where the state has a lot potential to look at. The state has been getting benefited by the religious tourism which can be changed into tourism for all. There are lots of scope that still need to be developed with good roads and hotels. We are working on it that is visible if anyone visits the state."

The state government wants to augment infrastructure and has already started working on it. If proper infrastructure is developed in the state, it can beat any other celebrated tourist destination in the country. Motor Boat in Tehri Dam and Floating Cabinet on the Tehri Dam have already become a tourist destination. The CM said, "We are in talks with several players to make it our tourist destinations at par with any other tourism destination."

Sources said that the chief minister recently visited Thailand to study things about tourism which can be applicable in the state. He met hoteliers group there and invited them to visit and invest into state in the hospitality business. The government wants to augment its income by developing good terrorist destination which at present depend on other sources or central government assistance.

The Uttarakhand government that is working on to make the state a tourist hub has plans to make National Lake Festival an annual affair which is organized at Tihri Lake. The government feels that Tehri Lake belongs to the people of the entire country so the event is a national interest. The government has different scheme to attract tourism that may attract youths, newly married couples, old-age people for religious tourism, people interested in adventure sports and health enthusiasts who wants to tracking. The government sources informed that it wants to make tourism as the main source of income.
