Government to launch new policy for elderly next year: Minister
New Delhi, Oct 1:The government would next year launch a comprehensive national policy for senior citizens to ensure their welfare, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot said on Thursday.
"Keeping in mind the change in the socio-economic conditions in our society, programmes and policies are being re-framed to ensure their (senior citizens) well-being," the minister said at a function here organised by the ministry of social justice and empowerment to mark the International Day of Older Persons.

The new policy for senior citizens would replace the existing one, which was formed in 1999, he said.
The new policy would provide better facilities to senior citizens living across the country.
The minister said the government has already sought suggestions from NGOs and other stakeholders for this purpose.
