Government hopeful of an early solution to the Nagaland impasse

Both the Union Government and the Nagaland State Government are positive of an early solution to the decade old Naga impasse. Most are optimistic that the solution will be worked out before the State goes to Assembly polls early next year.

A statement issued by the Nagaland Chief Minister's Office claims that National Security Advisor of India Ajit Doval has expressed hope that the political problem will be resolved soon.

The statement comes on the heels of TR Zeliang, CM, Nagaland and his cabinet colleagues meeting Doval in Delhi recently and requesting the Union Government for an early solution.

The statement claims that Doval in Delhi stated "Everyone wishes for an early solution and everyone needs to play their part in achieving it."

Incidentally on August 3, 2015 the Union Government and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Issac Muivah) had signed the framework agreement. However the details of the agreement have not been made public.

The Nagaland CM expect that the solution will be in place before the State goes to Assembly polls early next year. "Given the progress made and specially with the involvement of sic Naga national political groups along with the NSCN (IM) in the talk, this is the most opportune time for a solution" stated the CM.

The release stated that Doval had invited suggestions on what all the Union Government can do to find a solution to the impasse before Government adding that the Union Government will definitely consider the State Government's suggestion.

"It has to be a win-win situation for all. We have to create a congenial atmosphere for acceptance of the agreement between the Government of India and the Naga National groups so that one can move ahead on the path of development and leave the history of clashes and violence behind" stated Doval.

Nagaland Governor PB Acharya had earlier expresses hope that the solution would be found soon. "At this juncture, the Naga people, specially the civil society and political parties should be prepared to accept the solution and to implement it" the Governor had stated earlier.
