Gorakhpur tragedy: Yogi calls meeting of cabinet ministers, PM monitoring situation
The Prime Minister's Office earlier stated that Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel and Union Health Secretary would take stock of the situation in Gorakhpur.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday called a meeting, which was attended by state cabinet ministers and MoS Health Anupriya Patel, to discuss the tragic incident at Gorakhpur's BRD hospital which left 63 children dead.
"We have constituted a committee to be led by Chief Secretary to inquire the role of oxygen supplier in the incident," Adityanath said after the meeting.
The Prime Minister's Office earlier stated that Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel and Union Health Secretary would take stock of the situation in Gorakhpur.
"PM is constantly monitoring the situation in Gorakhpur. He is in constant touch with authorities from the Central & UP Governments," the PMO Twitter handle said.
A delegation of SP leaders at BRD hospital
Earlier, a delegation of the Samajwadi Party visited BRD medical college in Gorakhpur. Former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had earlier lashed out at BJP-led government in UP over the tragedy, blaming the ruling dispensation of negligence.

The Uttar Pradesh government earlier on Saturday suspended Baba Raghav Das (BRD) medical college's principal with immediate effect for his alleged negligence which led to the death of infants.
Ashutosh Tandon, Medical Education Minister, announced the suspension of the principal in a press conference held after taking stock of the situation in Gorakhpur hospital.

Candlelight vigil held to pay tribute
Earlier, the UP government said that stringent action will be taken against those found guilty in the high number of death of infants in Gorakhpur's state-run BRD Medical College.

After suspending BRD Medical College Principal in the wake of deaths of infants in the hospital in Uttar Pradesh, Adityanath on Saturday eveninghad said the problem is not with the government.
Speaking at a function, Adityanath said, ''Government is not the problem. The government has no right to be in power if it was a problem.''
He said that the problem of Encephalitis- inflammation of the brain- has been in Uttar Pradesh since 1978.
