Viral Research Centre to be setup in Gorakhpur: J P Nadda
In light of the tragedy at the government hospital, Union Health minister J P Nadda on Sunday said the Centre has approved Rs 85 crore for setting up a Central Viral Research Centre in Gorakhpur.

"The health ministry has approved for a Central-level Viral Research Centre in Gorakhpur. The centre will help find out the real problems oo the vector born diseases in the areas in eastern UP and work to find better solutions. A sum of Rs 85 crore has been released for this purpose", Nadda said while addressing a joint press confrence with Yogi Adityanath.
"The research centre would significantly help not only Gorakhpur, but the entire region, which is facing the challenge from vector-borne diseases. Apart from the medical centre, the union government has assured the state of all possible assistance, as it has already been providing," the Health Minister added.
Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who visited the hospital denied reports of disruption in oxygen supply as the reason behind the fatalities at Gorakhpur's Baba Raghav Das Medical College hospital and said the death of 30 infants was due to encephalitis.
The Chief Minister had earlier said the role of the oxygen vendor at the Baba Raghav Das Medical College will be probed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended every possible aid to the state government.
Meanwhile, Indian Medical Association President K K Aggarwal said that "suspension of principal alone was wrong and said if you're suspending him, suspend local admin, ban company. Investigation results to come within 72 hrs, with or without post mortem. Payments a major issue and must be made on time, he suggested.
Principal of the BRD Medical College R K Mishra was suspended for alleged negligence and callousness.
At least 70 children have died since August 10 in Gorakhpur's BRD Medical College Hospital amid allegations that a private contractor stopped supplying oxygen cylinders.
