Video: Gopal Subramaniam, Rohington Nariman may be appointed SC judges

Supreme Court
New Delhi, May 14: The Supreme Court may have cleared the names of two senior advocates as judges in an unprecedented move. The two judges are Gopal Subramaniam and Rohington Nariman.

The move is considered to be significant as it comes after 15 years since a judge was appointed directed by the Bar. The last lawyer who was appointed by the bar was Santosh Hegde in 1999, who became the Karnataka Lokayuta after retirement.

This was decided in a meeting last week, chaired by Chief Justice RM Lodha, and the proposal was sent to the central government for approval. The President is likely to take the final call on their appointment.

The duo were designated senior advocates and were solicitors general in the UPA-2 regime.
