Goods Train Derailed in Raigad: Major Disruption On Panvel-Vasai Route
A freight train headed to Vasai from Panvel derailed on the Panvel-Kalamboli section at around 3.05 pm, causing disruptions and delays. No injuries were reported but removal of the derailed wagons is still underway.
On September 30, a significant disruption occurred on the Panvel-Vasai route in Maharashtra's Raigad district when a goods train derailed. This incident led to an interruption in operations along this central railway line, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The Central Railway Chief Public Relations Office (CPRO), Shivraj Manaspure provided details of the derailment and its aftermath.
The Derailment Incident

According to CPRO Shivraj Manaspure, four wagons - including a brake van - from the freight train heading towards Vasai in Palghar district from Panvel in Raigad district came off track on the Panvel-Kalamboli section around 3:05 pm. The immediate aftermath of this incident saw at least five passenger trains detained at various points along the Konkan-Mumbai route. Out of the total 59 wagons that comprised the goods train, only four were affected by this unfortunate event while others could be cleared from the accident site and moved to Kalamboli yard by Saturday night.
Restoration Efforts Underway
In response to this situation, extensive efforts have been made for damage control and restoration of normalcy. Around 250 labourers are working tirelessly at the scene for removal of these derailed wagons and brake van which are still present at spot. In addition to these efforts for direct rectification of damage caused by derailment, measures have also been taken to ensure minimal disruption in ongoing railway operations.
A common route crossover has been arranged between Up and Down routes at Panvel so as not completely halt movement from derailment site; first up-train Ernakulam-Nizamuddin Express was able leave Panvel by 7:37 PM post-derailment.
Impact on Train Services
Despite the swift actions taken to manage this situation, the derailment has inevitably caused significant disruption in train services. At least half a dozen trains had to be diverted from their original routes while several others faced delays. The goods train derailment has particularly affected the operations along Konkan-Mumbai route.
In conclusion, while it is fortunate that no injuries were reported in this incident, it underscores the importance of stringent safety measures and regular maintenance for railway operations. Incidents like these not only disrupt daily lives but also pose potential risks. It is crucial that authorities take necessary steps to prevent such incidents and ensure safe and efficient railway services for passengers.
