Good news from Railways: Vaccum toilets may soon replace dirty ones
New Delhi, July 17: Forget the stinking toilets at railway stations that formed travelling by time, a part of your nightmare.
These toilets will soon be replaced with vacuum toilets by the Delhi division of northern railways. Beginning from New Delhi, the pilot project will cover all the main stations in the railway network.

The brainchild of railway minister Suresh Prabhu, the toilets will be replaced by long-lasting stainless steel pre-fabricated ones for hygiene and cleanliness.
This will also be implemented in trains, which will help in reducing the corrosion of tracks and improving longevity of railway lines.
In a latest survey related to cleanliness and hygiene, people are shown to be highly dissatisfied. Most of them, mostly women said that they did not even use the washroom during the entire journey for hygiene concerns.
The DRM said that the first vacuum toilet will be ready by August-end and a private firm 'Swamukt Waste Energy Private Limited' has been roped in by the railways to execute the project.
Saying that the toilet seats will be brought from USA, an official said,"The vacuum toilets would require nominal water and consume very less amount of power. The stainless steel structure would make cleanliness and maintenance easier and would reduce expenditure," officials said.
Notably, the railways have already begun replacing the conventional toilets in trains with bio-toilets. So far, the Indian Railways has installed nearly 20,000 bio-toilets."
