Good News: Construction workers to get 'lean period' assistance

Puducherry, Jan 14: A scheme to provide lean period assistance to building and other construction workers has been rolled out by the Puducherry government. A sum of Rs 2,000 would be available to a worker under the scheme, launched through the Welfare Board.

This was aimed at compensating loss of income workers would suffer due to north east monsoon, incessant rains and natural calamities, a notification of the Labour Department said today.

The government has also amended Puducherry Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules 2001 to pave the way for payment of the relief to the workers during the lean season.
