Golden Jubilee At Institute of Yoga Sciences: Celebration of 5 Decades of Dedicated Journey

The Institute of Yoga Sciences, Prashanti Kutiram, under S-VYASA Yoga University, renowned for its significant contributions to yoga and naturopathy, has commenced its Golden Jubilee celebrations with a grand event.

For the past 50 years, this institution has been dedicated to promoting health and spiritual advancement through yoga, Ayurveda, and naturopathy.

50 Years Of Institute of Yoga Sciences

The special event saw the presence of distinguished yoga masters, scholars, physicians, and yoga enthusiasts from across the country.

The event was graced by Union Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) Pratap Jadhav, along with other eminent personalities, including H.R. Nagendra Guruji, President of the S-VYASA Society; V.R. Ramakrishna, Pro-Chancellor of S-VYASA University; Vice-Chancellor Manjunath Sharma, Dr Ramachandra Bhatt, Raghavendra Rao, Registrar Shivashankar Sai, and Dr R. Nagaratna.

The ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and Vedic chanting, reflecting the institute's deep-rooted commitment to spiritual traditions and Indian culture. Senior yoga masters of the institute highlighted the institution's five-decade-long journey, achievements, and future plans. On this occasion, faculty and students of Sushrut Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital were felicitated with appreciation certificates for their contributions.

Union Minister Pratap Jadhav's Address

Chief guest Pratap Jadhav, in his address, commended S-VYASA Yoga University and its founder H.R. Nagendra Guruji for their invaluable contributions. He remarked, "The journey of Padma Shri Dr Nagendra Guruji-from NASA to VYASA, from mechanical engineering to human engineering-is truly inspiring. After returning from the USA in 1975, he laid the foundation of this institution to make yoga a socially relevant science. Today, this institute has emerged as a leading centre in AYUSH, integrated medicine, and preventive healthcare."

Highlighting the achievements of the AYUSH Ministry, he stated,
"India has secured five Guinness World Records, demonstrating the global acceptance of the AYUSH system. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our mission to establish India as the world's health and wellness capital continues."

Significance of Yoga and Naturopathy

During the event, yoga experts and physicians emphasised the importance of yoga and naturopathy. They reiterated that yoga is not just a physical exercise but a means of mental and spiritual upliftment. Senior yoga masters from the institute stated,
"Yoga is not merely about body movements; it is a journey of the soul. Prashanti Kutiram has upheld this tradition for half a century and is committed to expanding its reach in the future."

Institute's Historical Contributions to Yoga Science

The Minister further stated, "It is a matter of great pride that S-VYASA University's School of Yoga and Naturopathy has trained over 500 BNYS doctors who are serving society today. In 1985, this institute published the first research paper on yoga for bronchial asthma in the British Medical Journal. Today, it boasts over 1,000 research publications, making significant contributions to global yoga research."

Inauguration of the Centre of Excellence

During the ceremony, the Yoga Centre of Excellence was inaugurated by the Minister, who remarked, "I am honoured to witness this historic moment. S-VYASA has been making continuous contributions to yoga research, education, and therapy for the past five decades."

Founder H.R. Nagendra Guruji praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives in promoting AYUSH. He remarked, "While modern medical science has made remarkable advancements, the importance of yoga and Ayurveda for a healthy body and mind has increased significantly. We are committed to contributing to the 'Health for All' mission through yoga."

Future Plans

The vote of thanks was delivered by Pro-Chancellor V.R. Ramakrishna, who expressed gratitude to Union Minister Pratap Jadhav for his esteemed presence, calling it a moment of pride for the institution. He affirmed that under the guidance of their mentors and leaders, the institution would continue its journey towards excellence.

As part of its Golden Jubilee Year celebrations, the institution announced a series of yoga workshops, seminars, and cultural events throughout the year. These initiatives aim to promote yoga, Ayurveda, and naturopathy on a global scale, encouraging more people to embrace these practices.

Having completed a glorious 50-year journey, Prashanti Kutiram remains dedicated to advancing yoga, naturopathy, and spiritual well-being, with a commitment to benefiting the world through its teachings and research.
