Gold smuggling racket busted; culprit arrested in Mumbai airport
Mumbai, Aug 31: The gold smugglers has adapted to new techniques to smuggle gold.
In an incident here in Mumbai on Sunday, Aug 30, a 60-year-old passenger was caught smuggling gold in a fake bandage on his leg.
The passenger identified as Mushtaque Ali Ibrahim arrived from Bangkok.
He had fake bandage on his leg, chest and hand.
Mushtaque posed himself as a passenger who was wheelchair-bound. He hid gold that weighed 530 gm on his left leg and 400 gm in rectum.
The gold was seized by the B batch of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU officers). The gold weighed 930 gm in total. The value of seized gold is estimated to be Rs 22, 19, 654.
According to AIU official, a similar case like this has happened a few months ago.
A few months ago a female passenger was caught smuggling gold. She also pretended to be wheelchair-bound.
Mushtaque was arrested and released on bail after paying Rs 50,000.
