Tarun Gogoi asks militant outfits to join peace process
Guwahati, Jan 27: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today appealed to all militant organisations to shun violence and join the peace process to contribute to the development of the state.
"The spontaneous response of all sections of the people to celebrate the 67th Republic Day, defying the boycott call given by banned organisations is an indication that people want peace and development and not rebellion," Gogoi said in a statement here today.

The spontaneous celebration is also an indication of the rich dividends that welfare activities of the government have helped in auguring peace and tranquillity, he said, adding this would further encourage the government to take up more developmental activities for the welfare of all sections of the people of the state.
Gogoi said the way people cutting across caste, creed and religious lines were celebrating Bihu, Puja, Eid, Rass, Bhaona during the last few years is an indication of their mindset and signs of growing prosperity in the state.
He said his government was committed to deal with anti-social elements and would show no leniency to those who violate rule of law and try to hijack the peace process.
