Goa: PM Modi Unveils Lord Ram's World's Tallest Statue

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a ceremony in Goa, expressed his joy at unveiling the world's tallest statue of Lord Ram, just days after he had placed a sacred flag atop Ayodhya's Ram Mandir. This grand 77-foot bronze statue was crafted by the renowned sculptor Ram Sutar and is situated at the historic Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt in South Goa.

Highlighting the significance of this event, Modi emphasized the 550-year legacy of the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math. He outlined nine essential resolutions to achieve a developed India, including water conservation, tree planting, and adopting Swadeshi products. He also stressed promoting cleanliness, exploring India's diverse regions, and embracing natural farming methods as crucial steps.

Importance of National Progress

PM Modi further advocated for a healthier lifestyle, urging an increase in millet consumption and a 10% reduction in oil intake. He encouraged daily practices of yoga and sports and urged helping the poor in any possible way. According to Modi, these actions are vital for environmental protection and fostering responsible habits, contributing to national advancement.

The Prime Minister also released a commemorative coin and a special postal stamp to mark the 550th anniversary of the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt. During his speech, Modi celebrated the mutt's resilience over centuries, having withstood various challenges, including cyclones.

A Momentous Gathering

Arriving at the mutt around 3:45 pm, Modi's visit was facilitated by a newly constructed helipad on the premises. After visiting the temple, he addressed a public gathering. The event was attended by Goa Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union Minister Shripad Naik, and the entire state cabinet, marking one of the largest gatherings at the mutt in recent years.

The impressive 77-foot bronze statue, created by the veteran sculptor Ram Sutar, is set to become a landmark. Ram Sutar is also known for the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. Goa's Public Works Department Minister, Digambar Kamat, noted that this installation enhances the mutt's spiritual and cultural importance.

Commemorating a Rich Tradition

The unveiling coincides with a series of events from November 27 to December 7, celebrating the mutt's 550-year tradition. Established 370 years ago, the Partagal premises in Canacona remain a major spiritual hub. Organisers anticipate daily visitors between 7,000 and 10,000 during these celebrations, with the mutt complex refurbished to offer a modern look while preserving its spiritual essence.

In his address, Modi reiterated his happiness in unveiling the statue and acknowledged the mutt's enduring tradition. His visit highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage while encouraging progress through sustainable practices and responsible living.
