Goa Nightclub Fire: Court Relief for Owners, Legal Troubles Far From Over

A court in Goa has granted bail to Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, the owners of Birch by Romeo Lane, in connection with the deadly nightclub fire that occurred on December 6 last year.

The incident, which took place in Arpora in North Goa, claimed the lives of 25 people and triggered widespread outrage over safety lapses at nightlife venues. Following the tragedy, authorities, including the Goa Police, launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze and the club's compliance with safety norms.

While the bail order brings temporary relief to the Luthra brothers in the fire-related case, they remain entangled in a separate and serious legal battle. Investigators have accused them and their associates of forgery and cheating, alleging that they created a fake no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Health Office to secure excise licences and other mandatory approvals required to run the nightclub.

Acting on these findings, the Goa Police registered a second FIR against the accused, pointing to the use of fabricated documents to continue operations. The case took another turn recently when a court denied the brothers' anticipatory bail plea in connection with the forgery allegations.
