Re-balancing Global Order: Jaishankar

Jaishankar emphasized the interconnected roles of law, business, and diplomacy in this evolving landscape. He pointed out that as India's economic stature grows, with it being currently the fifth-largest economy globally and on track to become the third largest, the domain of arbitration becomes increasingly crucial. This development is not only essential for India's economic framework but also for enhancing its competitive edge in a globalized environment.

The minister underscored the necessity of developing high-quality arbitration capabilities to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and support India's rapid economic growth. He stressed that arbitration is recognized as the cornerstone of modern dispute resolution, which is vital for ensuring time efficiency and certainty in legal proceedings.

Jaishankar's remarks at the event also touched upon the broader vision for India's future, aiming for comprehensive development encapsulated in the concept of Viksit Bharat or developed India. This vision includes not just economic growth but improvements in quality of life, ease of doing business, technological advancements, and a more significant role in the international economy. The establishment of institutions like the Arbitration Bar of India is seen as pivotal in achieving these goals.

The External Affairs Minister shared his confidence in the legal community's contributions towards realizing Viksit Bharat through initiatives like this. He concluded by reiterating the importance of arbitration in facilitating more intensive economic activities both domestically and internationally, as India progresses on its path to development.

Through his address and subsequent social media posts, Jaishankar conveyed a clear message: "Arbitrate in India!" should go hand-in-hand with the "Make in India" initiative as the nation continues to globalize and grow economically. The Modi government's recognition of high-quality arbitration as a means to improve ease of doing business was also highlighted as a key factor in this endeavor.

This initiative not only signifies a step forward in enhancing India's legal infrastructure but also aligns with broader strategic goals aimed at strengthening India's position on the global stage. As such, the inauguration of the Arbitration Bar of India represents a noteworthy advancement towards integrating law, business, and diplomacy to support India's ambitious journey towards becoming a developed nation.
