Pondicherry horror: Woman raped twice, DMK MLA maligns victim

, Dec 27: A 21-year-old woman was abducted by three men and raped by one of them. She was abducted again a few minutes later by another group of 7 men and gang-raped. The shocking happened in Pondicherry on

The incident happened when the woman was accompanying one of her friends to meet the latter's boyfriend. While she was waiting outside the boy's residence, three people came and abducted her. They took her to a secluded place, where one of them raped her. From there, another gang kidnapped the girl to another place and gangraped her.

Reportedly, one of the culprits is a minor. A police case was registered soon after the incident and sources said that the police have identified 13 people and arrested 10 of them. Two policemen have also been suspended for lapses in handling the incident.

The girl has been admitted to a hospital with serious injuries.

And the worst - A DMK legislator, AMH Nazeem said on Friday that the incident could be a 'case of prostitution. "Rape case has been registered but it could be a case of prostitution". The legislator added that such incidents happen because the youth in the area are depressed.

Police registered cases against 14 people under IPC sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 376 - 2 (g) (punishment for rape - commits rape during communal or sectarian violence), 202 (intentional omission to give information of offence by person bound to inform) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
