Girl, on the way to be sacrificed at temple, murdered

Ananthapur (AP), Mar 20: A man allegedly handed over his three-year-old daughter for `human sacrifice' so as to find out underground treasure, and the hapless child was murdered when she raised alarm on the way, police said.

The incident took place today in Ananthapur district of Andhra Pradesh, police said. The girl was being taken to a temple at Kadirepalli village.

When she started screaming on the way, the man who was taking her allegedly tried to gag her and throttled her in the attempt, a senior police officer said.

He was arrested after some locals nabbed him. Police are cross-checking the girl's father's version of the story.
