Girl falls into pit in south Delhi park, dies
New Delhi, Feb 15: A six-year-old girl drowned after falling into a pit at a park in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, police said today. The incident took place on Saturday when the girl, identified as Krishna, was playing with her friends -- Sunil and Paras -- at the park, when Krishna and Sunil slipped and fell into the pit, which was half-filled with water, according to the police.
Paras managed to pull out Sunil but by the time they tried to rescue Krishna, she had drowned, police said. The two boys then rushed to girl's residence nearby and informed her parents about the incident. The girl was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought dead.

"A case of negligence has been registered in this connection," a police official said. Earlier in the morning, on the same day of the incident, the resident welfare association of the locality had held a meeting with the civic agency concerned and discussed about the hazards of the "open" pit in the park.
"Investigation of the case is underway and we have questioned several persons," he said.
