Now, get Rs 50,000, medal and certificate for intercaste marriage
Meerut, Jan 29: In an attempt to encourage inter-caste marriage, the Uttar Pradesh government has promised to give such couples Rs 50,000 as reward.
Also, the newly-wed couple will also get a medal and a certificate for marrying partner of different caste.

To bring this initiative into action, the Government will also felicitate eight such couples in Meerut on February 8, says Times of India report.
Confirming the State Government's plan, Commissioner, Meerut zone, Bhupendra Singh said that the first felicitations are on as scheduled. "The ceremony will be held at the commissioner's office. The couples will be given a prize money of Rs 50,000, along with commendation certificate and a medal," he was quoted as saying in media report.
He further said that the scheme is applicable in the whole State but the condition is that one side, either groom or bride, must belong to the schedule cast.
The report said the interested couples will have to go to the district magistrate with the marriage certificate. From there the DM will forward their names to the commissioner from whose office the cheques will go out.
Meanwhile, social activists have welcomed the step by the State Government. Many say such incentives will go a long way in changing the mindset.
