German Envoy Lauds India's Upcoming Election as a Global Democratic Milestone
German Ambassador Philipp Ackermann recently expressed his admiration for India's electoral process, highlighting the significance of the upcoming elections starting on April 19 as a pivotal moment for India on the international stage. Speaking at an event hosted by OP Jindal Global University, Ackermann underscored the global attention towards India, especially in light of its G20 Presidency, which began on December 1, 2022.

Ackermann pointed out the challenging global context marked by conflicts such as those between Iran-Israel and Russia-Ukraine, emphasizing the unique position India finds itself in. "In the midst of this very, very difficult situation, I can't remember the world being in such difficult times than now," he remarked, noting Europe and the European Union's perspective on India's rising prominence.
The ambassador lauded India's role in the G20 Summit held on September 9-10, which concluded the country's presidency of the influential bloc. The summit was notable for its wide-reaching impact, involving all P5 countries and representing 85% of global GDP, 75% of world trade, and two-thirds of the world population. The theme "One Earth, One Family, One Future," based on the ancient Indian concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, was unanimously endorsed.
Ackermann emphasized that India's elevated role on the global stage is well-deserved but comes with high expectations from various international quarters. He highlighted the diverse expectations countries have from India and pondered how India would navigate its enhanced role in international politics. The German envoy also mentioned that many governments, including Germany's, are keen on seeing India play a more significant role internationally.
Furthermore, Ackermann discussed the importance of a strong partnership between India and Europe, including Germany. He stressed that both regions have a profound interest in maintaining the international rules-based order. "It is in India's interests to develop a strong and solid partnership with Europe," he stated, expressing optimism about the progress in this direction.
The event provided insights into the evolving dynamics of international relations and India's growing influence on the global stage. As countries navigate through complex geopolitical landscapes, partnerships like that between India and Europe become crucial in upholding global order and fostering mutual growth.
