Gautam Gambhir Threatened By 'ISIS Kashmir' Following Pahalgam Terror Attack, Seeks Delhi Police Protection

Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team and a former Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has received a death threat via email. The threatening message was sent by a group identifying itself as 'ISIS Kashmir' and contained the chilling words, "I Kill You". This threat came shortly after the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, earlier this week.

According to a statement from Gambhir's office, the cricketer received two emails on Tuesday-one in the afternoon and another in the evening-both carrying the same threatening message. Following this, Gambhir contacted the Delhi Police and filed a formal complaint. He also requested security for himself and his family.

This is not the first time Gambhir has faced such threats. In November 2021, when he was serving as a Member of Parliament, he had received a similar email.

Gambhir recently returned from a holiday in France with his family. While the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is currently underway, head coaches typically have time off during the tournament. Gambhir was appointed as India's head coach in July last year, taking over from Rahul Dravid.

The former cricketer has been vocal in condemning the recent Pahalgam terror attack. In a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote, "Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike."

Mixed Start As Coach

Gambhir's journey as India's head coach has seen ups and downs. He started with disappointing results, losing an ODI series in Sri Lanka and a Test series at home against New Zealand. The Indian team also lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia, ending an eight-year winning streak. Leaked dressing room conversations during this period also created controversy and raised questions about internal team dynamics.

However, India made a strong comeback under Gambhir's leadership, winning the ICC Champions Trophy undefeated. India beat New Zealand in the final to claim their second ICC title in less than a year.

The Delhi Police are currently investigating the threat and are expected to tighten security around Gambhir and his family.
