Gauri Lankesh murdered: Subramanian Swamy highlights old 'family feud'

BJP MP Subramanian Swamy has created a flutter over journalist Gauri Lankesh's murder by highlighting an old family feud. The leader, who is not new to controversies, has highlighted a squabble involving Gauri Lakesh and her brother Indrajit Lankesh in 2005 with a comment on whether the case was getting murkier.

As hundreds paid respects to Gauri Lankesh at Ravindra Kala Kshetra of Bengaluru, Subramanian Swamy took to Twitter to post the screenshot of a news report from 2005 along with a question of whether the assault on the journalist and the reasons around it were getting murkier.

Swamy posted a screenshot from a Times of India report dated February 15, 2005. The report speaks of a fight that the siblings had over the ideology of Lankesh Patrike. According to the report, Gauri, who was then the Editor of Lankesh Patrike and Indrajit, who was the paper's proprietor and publisher leveled allegations against each other over content and ideology of the paper.

"While Gauri claimed her social activism was not accepted by her brother, Indrajit countered saying his sister's pro-Naxal stand was coming in the way of the paper's ideology," the report states.

Subramanian Swamy posted a screenshot of the article that suggests that 'Gauri had filed a counter complaint against Indrajit alleging that he had threatened her with a revolver'. While Swamy only chose to caption the screenshot with, "Is it getting murkier?", the implied sense became clear.

Indrajit Lankesh has been demanding a CBI probe into the murder of his sister. Currently, a Special Investigation Team set up by the Karnataka government is probing the case.
