Gauri Lankesh murder: Probe slows down as leads dry up

The SIT has almost eliminated the professional and naxalite angles.

The Special Investigation Team has not yet managed to find any concrete clue in the Gauri Lankesh murder probe. The SIT which was set up to probe the murder is now looking into angles of personal rivalry and possible links to right wing groups.

The SIT has almost eliminated the professional and naxalite angles. On the other hand the strength of the SIT too has reduced. The probe began with a 200 member team, but now the strength has shrunk to 50 with many officers being asked to return to their original postings.

The case has been investigated in much detail. However with no concrete clues coming their way, the SIT is finding it exceptionally hard to crack the case. Recently the SIT had released sketches of the suspects. However there has been no concrete lead following the release of sketches.

Sources however say that the probe is far from over as yet. Although the team strength has reduced, the officers in charge continue to burn the midnight oil to crack the case.
